Textbook — Calculus (8th edition), by James Stewart, Cengage Learning, 2016, ISBN-13: 9781285740621. We will cover most of chapters 12-16.
Syllabus — A tentative day-by-day syllabus can be found here (http://www.math.ou.edu/~forester/2934F16/syllabus.html).
Attendance — You are expected to attend all classes and participate fully. You are responsible for being aware of any announcements made in class.
Grading — Your grades will be posted regularly on Canvas (http://oucanvas.com). Please monitor your grades for accuracy. Any mistake should be reported to me right away so it can be remedied. Your final grade will be computed from homework assignments, quizzes, three midterm exams, and a comprehensive final exam, weighted as follows:
Homework | due in class, weekly
Quizzes | given occasionally
Three midterms | 55% | lowest 15%, other two 20% each |
Final | 25% | comprehensive |
Final letter grades will be given according to the following scale:
A | B | C | D | F |
100-90 | 89-75 | 74-60 | 59-45 | 44-0 |
Homework — Homework will be assigned regularly, and due (usually) on Thursdays at the beginning of class. Late homework will not be accepted under any circumstances. However, I will drop your two lowest homework scores.
You are allowed to work with each other in small groups. However, you will need to prepare individual written solutions.
Your homework must be neat and legible, with your full name written clearly on the top. The pages must be stapled, and all spiral notebook fringes must be removed. Otherwise, the homework will not be accepted.
The assignments will be posted here (http://www.math.ou.edu/~forester/2934F16/homework.html).
Quizzes — I will give short quizzes every now and then during class.
Exams — There will be three exams during the course, given during the regular lecture time. All exams must be taken at the scheduled times, unless you have a university sanctioned excuse, which must be brought to my attention well in advance. Please do not arrange travel plans that conflict with these dates.
The final exam will be held on Monday December 12, 8:00-10:00 am, in PHSC 321. University regulations require that it be held at this time.
Three exams | Tues 9/20, Tues 10/25, and Tues 11/22 |
Final Exam, | Monday 12/12, 8:00-10:00 am |
Calculators — Calculators will not be needed, or allowed, during exams or quizzes. Otherwise, you are welcome to use them as you see fit when studying for the class or working on problems.
Math Center — The Math Center (http://www.ou.edu/content/cas/mathcenter.html) provides free help for students of Math 2934. I recommend giving them a try if you have questions on your homework.
