Mathematics 2433-007 - Calculus III - Fall 2002
Information about Exam III
Exam II will be in the usual classroom on Thursday, November 21,
2002. Rather than taking your usual seat, you will need to sit so that
there is no one on either side of you.
Only a basic, non-graphing calculator may be used. Actually, there is no
need to use a calculator. Scratch paper will be provided, so all you will
need is something to write with.
The exam will be worth 54 points, and will cover sections 13.1-13.7. The
approximate point breakdown by section of the text is as follows:
13.2 | 4
|
13.3 | 9
|
13.4 | 13
|
13.5 | 13
|
13.6 | 9
|
13.7 | 6
|
Total | 54
|
The following topics will definitely be covered (of course, the exam is not limited to
these topics):
1.
| dot product -- calculation and geometric meaning
|
2.
| cross product -- calculation and geometric meaning
|
3.
| equations of straight lines -- be able to write all three
forms of the equations, given a point on the line and a direction vector
|
4.
| equations of planes
|
5.
| scalar projection and vector projection
|
6.
| traces of quadric surfaces
|
It is not necessary to know how to check whether two lines intersect. You
do not need to know the formulas for x, y, and z in spherical
coordinates. The questions over 13.7 will concern spherical coordinates,
not cylindrical coordinates. It is not necessary to memorize the formulas
for quadric surfaces, but it will be helpful to be familiar with them.
