Mathematics 1823-001H - Honors Calculus I - Fall 2006

Information about Final Exam

The Final Exam will be in the usual classroom on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, from 8:00 a. m. to 10:15 a. m. It will emphasize the material covered since Exam III, and will cover additional topics as described below.

Calculators or other mechanical assistance are not needed and are not to be used. Blank paper will be provided, so all you will need is something to write with.

Any problem identical or similar to a problem on one of the three in-class exams might appear. In addition, the following will definitely be covered, although the exam not necessarily restricted to these topics:
  1. Using calculus and other techniques to understand graphs of functions (curve sketching).
  2. Limits as x -> infinity or x -> -infinity.
  3. Optimization problems (i. e. max-min problems).
  4. Antiderivatives: Finding functions given various information about their derivatives, area functions and their relation to antiderivatives.
  5. Related rates problems.
  6. The Intermediate Value Theorem and the Mean Value Theorem. Statements and applications.
  7. Formal definitions of limits. Be able to give formal definitions, but using them to give arguments is not covered on this exam.

Final exams from previous Honors Calculus classes can be found on their course pages (links to them appear on the course pages page). Of course, these were different classes, so the exams may be quite a bit different.
