Math 5990Teaching College MathematicsFall 2006 |
We've talked a bit already about the problem of how to improve students' learning in our classes, but I'd like to go further into this topic in next Wednesday's class (Oct. 11).
As preparation for the class, please read the following three excerpts from Steven Krantz' book. (The first excerpt is by Krantz himself; the others are taken from the appendices written by other authors.)
2. "Personal Thoughts on Mature Teaching" by David Bressoud (pages 173-181).
3. "Are We Encouraging Our Students to Think Mathematically?" by Deborah Hughes Hallett (pages 215-220).
The syllabus for this course is here.
