I am originally from India. I was born in Madras (now Chennai)
and came to the United States when I was 19 for my Bachelor's
degree. I graduated in 1993 from Reed College with a B.A. in
Mathematics. I continued on to graduate school at the University
of Maryland, College Park; I got my Ph.D under the direction of
Karsten Grove in 1999. After a 3 year post-doc (Hildebrandt
Research Asst. Professor) at the University of Michigan, I moved
to Norman, Oklahoma in 2002 as a tenure track Assistant
Professor.
Highlights:
- My daughter, Sophie Mallika, was born in June 2011. She is
named in part after Sophie
Germain.
- My son, Kitcha Niels, was born in February 2014. He is named in part
after Niels Henrik Abel.
- My Erdos number is 4 (I think) and my Einstein number is 5.
- I was a semi-professional ballroom dancer (a long time ago).
- I am a certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher.
