Abstract: In his notes on 3-manifolds, William Thurston observed that “One gets a feeling that volume is a very good measure of the complexity of a link complement”. His work laid the foundation to an extensive program focused on understanding the structure of hyperbolic volumes. An integral part of this program is to classify the low volume examples in different topological classes of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. In this talk, we will discuss some of the known examples of such low volume manifolds while exploring the interplay between the volume and the complexity.
