Abstract: Skein algebras are defined using curves in surfaces modulo some local relations, and they can be viewed as a quantization of the character variety of the surface. The Hall algebra of an abelian category has a basis given by objects, and the product "counts extensions." In this talk we discuss a conjecture that the Homfly skein algebra of a surface maps to the Hall algebra of the Fukaya category of that surface, and give some rough evidence for this for the torus. We also discuss a partial solution of this conjecture by Haiden. Our goal is to give an introductory talk, and in particular, we will define all the objects mentioned above.
