Abstract: In preparation for a unique Fall 2020 semester, I considered a wide range of alternatives to exams, especially for the final exam. Knowing that it was likely that the final exam would have to be taken remotely by everyone, and knowing how well that went over in Spring 2020, I did some light research about the idea of a portfolio submission as an alternative to a mathematics exam. In this talk, I will give an overview of what I found in the research literature, how I am applying it to Math 1643, and what I have learned so far, having graded three portfolio submissions from my students.
