Professor Ruediger Landes earned an undergraduate degree from University of Munich and University of Göttingen in 1973, a doctorate (Dr.rer.nat) from University of Bochum in 1977, and Habilitation (Dr.rer.nat.habil.) form University of Bayreuth. After appointments at University of Bayreuth and University of Chicago, he was appointed at OU as Assistant Professor in 1985 and promoted to Associate and Full Professor in 1989 and 1998, respectively. He has published over 30 research papers on nonlinear partial differential equations and calculus of variations, and supervised two doctoral students. Professor Landes held short-term appointments at University of Oulu (Finland), University of Bonn, University of Heidelberg, MSRI, and University of Dresden. His wife, Dr. Margarete “Gretel” Landes, has taught as adjunct instructor in our department for many years. Professor Landes retired in 2016 to devote himself to his new hobby, pottery.
